19 Apr Flower Farming
As some of you may know, Scheiderer Farms has taken on a new adventure, way out behind the house in a field that was eagerly wanting to grow something beautiful—a bountiful flower garden for cutting. The field did its part last year in producing healthy, luscious plants and we were very appreciative. This year we’ll again be taking it one step further and harvesting buckets (lots of buckets) of fresh cut blooms!
I had the pleasure of going on several “field trips” with Keith and Candi, touring successful Ohio Flower Farmers. We have handpicked the best of the best cut flowers, and learned which varieties thrive in this area. I recently had the honor of tucking these sweet little seeds into their soil, so they could get to work! From the almost microscopic snapdragon seeds, to the flaky, long marigolds, I’ve enjoyed getting to know this process from seed to sprout. I watch them weekly in the green house, just waiting for the first little emergence of green…and when it breaks through the soil I feel like a proud momma.
This has been a long, cold winter, but before we know it, these little seedlings will turn into rows and rows of vibrant color and unparalleled beauty, just beaming in the sunshine, begging to be picked! We look forward to sharing our blooms with you as a customer, whether in a fresh cut arrangement on your kitchen table, or in a unique array of bouquets for your child’s wedding. From their fragrance to their bright colors, you can’t help but appreciate the quality and sustainability of flowers grown and cut from your very own community.
Follow our flower truck on instagram to see where you can find these beautiful cuts, and check out our Facebook page for pictures of our gorgeous weddings. Once the seedlings are big enough, the field will welcome them and begin its part in creating the most lovely bouquets of fresh cut flowers, and we feel sure they will bring joy to Scheiderer Farms customers all summer long!
